Teresita J. Herbosa, former Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), re-joins ACCRALAW as Of Counsel. During her term from April 2011 to June 2018 as SEC Chairperson, she introduced and implemented reforms to improve the efficiencies in the SEC. This included the automation of the frontline services and establishment of satellite offices in malls in various cities in Metro Manila and Cebu. She promoted measures to ensure the ease of doing business and good corporate governance.
As SEC Chairperson, she served as a member of the Anti-Money Laundering Council which investigates and prosecutes money laundering cases as an offshoot of predicate crimes, such as corruption, bribery, plunder, swindling, fraud, misappropriation and malversation.
She also suggested amendments to the Corporation Code which were carried and incorporated into the recently enacted Revised Corporation Code.
Under her leadership, in 2015 and 2016, based on nationwide surveys, the SEC ranked first in the fight against corruption among 35 government agencies. She was also given the Public Service Excellence Award by BizNewsAsia in November 2016.
Prior to taking the helm of the SEC, Ms. Herbosa served as the Firm’s Co-Managing Partner. She also headed the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department for more than 10 years. She was recognized by various institutions to be among the top litigation practitioners in the Philippines, such as the 2001 Edition of the International Financial Law Review’s Guide to the World’s Leading International Business Law Firms.
The Firm is honored by Ms. Herbosa’s re-joining the Firm because she brings with her not only her wealth of litigation experience, but also her expertise in the corporate and securities law practice.
