Simon is a partner specialising in aviation law and aircraft finance. He has advised lessors, financiers, airlines, business jet managers and MRO service providers on cross border operating leases, finance leases, sale and leasebacks, domestic PRC operating leases utilising the Tianjin SPV structure, syndicated loans secured by aircraft assets, Islamic financing, ECA financing, commercial aircraft fleet acquisition projects, aircraft lease novation, engine and cabin equipment purchases, power-by-the-hour arrangements, MRO service agreements, sale and purchase of used aircraft and aircraft holding companies, business jet management arrangements, aviation joint ventures in mainland China, licensing arrangements and restructuring of tax leases.
In terms of geographical coverage, Simon has handled aircraft transactions involving airlines in China, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Nepal, France, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.
Simon has more than ten years of experience in the industry and his main clients are ICBC Leasing, CDB Leasing, Spring Airlines and Metrojet. He has also acted for Air Asia, Air Asia X, Lion Air, Spring Japan, Minsheng Financial Leasing, JIC Leasing, Tibet Airlines, Mizuho, ICBC (London), ICBC (Asia), Bank of China, BNP Paribas, Cathay Pacific Airways, HAECO, Hongkong Jet and Heliservices.
Simon is recognised as one of the leading individuals in aviation finance by Chambers and Legal 500 in 2015 and a “Rising Star” by the Airfinance Journal in 2011.
Simon was awarded his PhD in law by the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Science in Laws by Stanford University. Simon was a university lecturer in commercial law prior to joining private practice.
