An advisor to SSEK since 1996, Richard Emmerson has 30 years of experience as a corporate-commercial lawyer. His practice includes foreign investment planning, the establishment of subsidiaries and joint venture companies and their ongoing corporate and commercial affairs, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and labor law.
Mr. Emmerson has extensive experience in privatizations and infrastructure development projects (drinking water, private power) and advises clients in the insurance, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, distribution and manufacturing sectors.
He has been endorsed by Chambers Global, Asia Law & Practice and Acquisition International as a leading practitioner in the fields of corporate and commercial law, corporate restructuring and corporate governance, and has been endorsed by the International Financial Law Review, Chambers Asia and Asia Law & Practice as a leading labor and employment lawyer. Mr. Emmerson has been a Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia since 1998. He has lectured at the Faculties of Law of the University of Indonesia, Trisakti University and Gadjah Mada University.
Mr. Emmerson was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario) as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1985. He is a graduate of Queen's University in Canada (BA Honors Political Studies 1980; LL.B. 1983). He practiced law in Toronto, Canada, from 1985 to 1991 specializing in corporate and commercial law, and in Seoul, South Korea, from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the Employment Law Alliance.
