The firm offers a broad range of legal services in the following categories: contentious, regulatory, non contentious and shipping. On the contentious side, the firm advises clients on complex high value cross-border commercial litigation and international arbitration as well as more straightforward domestic commercial disputes. Hill Dickinson regularly advises stakeholders (debtor and creditor) in distressed situations and related security enforcement and insolvency procedures in Hong Kong, the PRC and other Asian jurisdictions. The firm also advises on shareholder disputes (including ‘quasi partnership’ disputes), joint venture disputes, investment product misrepresentation/ misselling claims, banking disputes, internet crime (business email compromise scams/CEO fraud) and more routine debt/asset recovery matters, sale of goods disputes and employment issues. The firm regularly appears before the High Court on urgent confidential interim relief applications to trace, preserve and recover assets (including the appointment of provisional liquidators and receivers, freezing orders, Anton Piller orders and discovery orders). The firm regularly provides advice concerning the validity of arbitration clauses, and the enforceability of judgments and arbitration awards. The firm also advises on contentious insurance matters including coverage and defence work. It also provides audits of insurance policies and advise on policy wordings. Caroline Thomas and Anthony Jex provide regulatory advice to companies in the insurance and shipping sectors – including on authorisation as an insurer or intermediary in Hong Kong and on changes engendered by the Independent Insurance Authority. On the non-contentious side, Anthony Jex has practised in Hong Kong for 25 years.
